Barca Residency Academy’s MLS NEXT Academy and Homegrown teams went 12-0 this weekend, dominating both at home and on the road. The MLS Homegrown sides traveled to San Diego, CA for a doubleheader against City SC San Diego and City SC Southwest. Meanwhile, the Academy sides stayed home to face SC del Sol in a Sunday matchup.
SATURDAY 3/21:
It was a successful Saturday on the road for Barca’s Homegrown sides at City SC San Diego. The U-19s started the day with a gritty 1-0, Graham Ford scored the lone goal of the match while Aaron Tamer picked up the clean sheet.
The U-17s carried the momentum from the U-19s’ win, with Emilio Kieffer scoring in the first minute of the match. City San Diego tied it up just before half, and Barca exploded out of the break. Joe Sellinger put them away and sealed three points for his squad with a brace in the second half.
The U-16s started off their dominant weekend with a seven-goal performance. Sergio Kong and Sean De Wet led the charge each scoring a brace. They dominated on both ends and helped Zachary Enyon pick up the clean sheet. The U-15 finished off the day with a 2-1 win, avenging their loss from earlier this season, and handing City SC SD their second loss of the season.

SUNDAY 3/22:
Sunday brought a plethora of positive results from both Academy and Homegrown divisions. On the Homegrown side, results were eccentric, with the U-16’s scoring 11 goals and keeping a clean sheet, and a couple of long-range goals from Graham Ford of the U-19’s. Ford scored once just after halftime from the halfway line, and then once after the 90th minute to seal the game with an exquisite free kick from distance.
For the Academy Division, the teams capped off an undefeated weekend for Barca Residency Academy with some more lopsided wins. In a day filled with goals, the cream of the crop was the U-16’s Lucca Benitez bringing the ball forward from center back, and driving home a long range effort from a few yards outside the top right side of the box. All in all, an extremely successful day, both home and away, for Barca Residency Academy.
