Barca Residency Academy was back this past weekend, featuring the MLS Next Academy Division teams in a doubleheader. The weekend included away matches against SC Del Sol and FC Tucson. The Academy Division teams delivered strong results, with all teams winning on Saturday, including a high-scoring performance by the U-15 Academy team, and positive results on Sunday.
SATURDAY 3/7:
Barca’s Academy Division teams opened the weekend with four wins in four games versus SC Del Sol. While the oldest three age groups all won their games by one goal, the U-15 Academy group didn’t settle for such a close scoreline and put 12 goals past the SC Del Sol keeper. This performance included an astounding tally of 5 goals from Addison Morehead, who never wavered in effort as the game went on.
The U-16 and U-17 teams won in more dramatic fashion, both winning 1-0 courtesy off thriling second-half goals. The drama was keyed by U-16 striker/winger Gunnar Gaul taking on multiple SC Del Sol defenders and scoring a lovely goal to capture the victory in the 87th minute.
