Earlier this week, Barca Residency Academy’s U-15 MLS Next team secured their place in the 2024 MLS Next Cup Playoffs after completing a perfect run at the MLS Next Flex in Maryland. This milestone marks a historic moment for Barca Residency Academy as all four of their MLS Next teams have qualified for the MLS Next cup Playoffs for the first time ever.
The annual five-day competition was held in Boyds, Maryland, and served as a qualifier for the 2024 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs. The U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-19 age groups each had 64 teams battling to win their group and earn a postseason berth. Only the top team in each of the 16 groups advanced to the season-culminating MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs.
Barca’s U-15 squad rose to the occasion and went undefeated with three decisive victories. They defeated Weston FC (3-1), Houston Dynamo (3-1), and De Anza Force (4-1) to earn their playoff spot. They join Barca’s U-16, U-17, and U-19 teams who qualified based on their standing from the season-long divisional play.
The season-ending MLS Next Cup Playoffs are scheduled for June 15-23 at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tennessee. The league’s top 32 teams in each age group will compete for the title of MLS Next Cup Champions for the 2023-24 season.
