Alum Julian Araujo and Mexico win 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup

Barca Residency Academy alumni Julian Araujo and Diego Luna went head-to-head on the international stage Sunday night as Mexico defeated the United States 2-1 in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. With the victory, Mexico secured its historic tenth Gold Cup title, coming from behind to claim the win.

Luna, the USMNT Gold Cup hero and brightest star, was brilliant throughout the tournament for the red, white, and blue, playing a crucial role in getting the U.S. to the final. The dynamic midfielder scored three goals in two key knockout matches, including a brace in the 2-1 semifinal win over Guatemala and his first international goal in the quarterfinals against Costa Rica. Luna earned the start in the final and logged 85 hard-fought minutes for the Stars and Stripes.

Although Araujo did not appear in the final, he played a crucial role in Mexico’s journey to the title. The right-back went the full 90 minutes in both the 2-0 quarterfinal win over Saudi Arabia and the narrow 1-0 semifinal victory over Honduras, helping anchor a strong Mexican backline.
