Barca Residency Academy alum Diego Luna Called-Up to USMNT for 2025 Gold Cup

Alumnus Diego Luna Named to 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup Roster

Famed Barça Residency Academy alumnus Diego Luna has been named to the 26-man U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the upcoming 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The USMNT will play two friendly matches, Saturday, June 7, and Tuesday, June 10, before heading to San Jose, California, to begin preparations for its opening match of group play against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, June 15.

Luna, who spent three seasons at Barca Residency Academy, signed his first professional contract with El Paso Locomotive and was acquired by Real Salt Lake months later in the largest transfer deal from USL to MLS. Since joining RSL, Luna has emerged as one of Major League Soccer’s brightest young stars. He was named the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year and earned a spot on the MLS 22 Under 22 list for the second consecutive year—rising from No. 10 in 2023 to a top spot in 2024.

So far in the 2025 MLS season, Luna leads Real Salt Lake with eight goals and four assists, matching his goal total from last season in half as many matches.

Luna will bring his attacking power to the USMNT alongside Vancouver Whitecaps striker Brian White, who is currently tied for third in the MLS Golden Boot race with eight goals in 10 matches, while Luna trails just behind with eight goals in just 13 appearances.

“We are extremely excited to work with this group of players and compete for the championship,” said USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino. “Of course, our priority is to win the tournament and to show the right mentality and approach, and we are confident these players will take advantage of the opportunity.”

The USMNT begins Group D play on Sunday, June 15, against Trinidad and Tobago at PayPal Park in San Jose, California (6 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. MT). The team will then face Saudi Arabia at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, June 19 (9:15 p.m. ET / 7:15 p.m. MT), before concluding the group stage against Haiti on Sunday, June 22, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (7 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. MT).
