Barça Residency Academy U17 Captain – Julain Araujo Joins US Soccer U18 MNT’s Fourth Training Camp of the 2018-19 Cycle

June 9, 2018

Barça Academy U-17 captain, Julian Araujo was called in to join the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Men’s National Team’s fourth training camp of the 2018-19 cycle. The training camp is taking place June 4-11 at the U.S. Soccer National Development Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

U-18 MNT Head Coach Omid Namazi will run the camp and has called up 27 players, all born in 2001. This group of players is six months into its two-year cycle as U-18s before transitioning into the U-20s in 2020. This will form the core of the group that will eventually attempt to qualify for the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

A total of 14 players are being called up to the U-18 MNT for the first time, but Araujo has been a staple with this group as he has been called up to all four of the U-18 MNT camps for the 2018-19 cycle. The group got off to an early start to its cycle with a training camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in November 2017, and took part in the first ever U.S. Soccer Men’s YNT Summit two months later. Most recently, the U-18 MNT defeated Costa Rica twice (2-1 and 3-0), as part of a domestic camp in Orlando, Florida.

Mundo Deportivo – a Spanish nationwide daily sports newspaper published in Barcelona, recently wrote a brief article on Araujo and his involvement with the US MNT titled, “The American Barça defender who points high – Julián Araujo plays at the Barça Residency Academy and is part of the U-18 National Team”.

Araujo and three other Barça Residency Academy players spent time at La Masia in March, where Araujo’s skills impressed scouts in Barcelona. “He does not play in FC Barcelona’s home football, but he belongs to Barça because his club is the Barça Residency Academy, of Casa Grande (Arizona, United States). His name is Julián Araujo and he can play as central or right-back. This week he has joined the United States U-18 National Team concentration at the National Soccer Development Center in Kansas City.”

Upon his return from the U-18 training camp, Araujo will rejoin his Barça Residency Academy U-17 team and compete in the 2017-18 USSDA Playoffs.
