Player Insider: Elias Thomas

My name is Elias Thomas and I would like to introduce myself with this letter. It has always been a dream of mine to become a professional soccer player and I have dedicated a tremendous amount of time to fulfill this dream and developed a great passion for this sport. I am therefore honored to be playing for the Barça Residency Academy to continue my journey. Before joining the Barça Academy I played for VFL Wolfsburg in Germany from U12 – U17. After playing for VFL Wolfburg for 6 years, I continued my path and played for Eintracht Braunschweig for one year.

In the further process I would like to give you more information about me and something about my family. When I think about my childhood and my family, I immediately think about the kind of learning processes and great moments I have been through. I was born in a small city called Braunschweig, located in Germany in January of 2001. Although I was born in Germany, I lived in the U.S for six years, therefore I have a U.S citizenship due to my American dad. Academically speaking, I consider photography and graphic design as my strong attributes and intend on going this path in the future. A lot of my friends and family admire my pictures and logos I make and support me a lot. My non-academic attributes are of course playing soccer on one hand but being physically active and playing all kinds of different sports such as basketball, table tennis, volleyball, golf, fishing on the other hand to keep me healthy and in shape.

Now, let me tell you about my family. I have lived together with my mom, my dad and my brother for my whole entire life until I moved here, to Casa Grande, to play for Barça. My mom’s name is Franziska. She is German and works as an office manager. My dad’s name is Jacob Thomas. He is American and played soccer professional. In 1996-1999 he started his career for Austin Lone Stars. In 1999-2004 moved to Germany to play for Eintracht Braunschweig, where he married my mom. In 2004-2005 he played for VFB Lubeck. On March 28, 2006 he was signed by the Columbus Crew and retired in the year of 2007. He now works as a soccer agent part-time and officially works for my family’s business as an electronist. My brother’s name is Isaiah. He is 15 years old and was born in the year of 2004. He plays soccer for VFL Wolfsburg in Germany and is working very hard to become a professional soccer player as well.

Now, let me talk about my present and future goals. Since my dad played professional soccer and my grandpa as well, I have grown up in a soccer environment and played soccer for my whole entire life. I have put a lot of hard work and dedication into this sport and therefore developed a great passion for it. A Lot of people ask me what brought me to Casa Grande. Since I was a little kid, I loved being in America and have a lot of great memories from the past. The main reason is the experience that I will gain here, meeting new people and getting to know the American culture will shape what kind of life I will live in the future. I want to live a happy and full life and don’t want to regret anything when I get older. Despite my future visions, many decisions and boundaries that I had to overcome influenced my path till now. There were a lot of ups and downs in my life, but at the end the good memories remain and the downs fade away. I however, believe that these downs, that I faced, made me stronger and made me work harder towards my dream. Of course, my main goal is to become a professional soccer player, but I like to work on small goals first. For example, staying healthy and playing an injury free season with a lot of success and joy. Therefore, I am committed to working hard and looking for opportunities that could help me make my goals a reality. Thank you for reading my blog and hope you got a glimpse of my life.
