Barça Residency Academy U-15s and U-17s Defeat San Diego Surf

Casa Grande, Ariz – Back at Grande Sports World – Home of Barça Residency Academy for their second consecutive weekend, the Barça Residency Academy U-15s and U-17s faced off against San Diego Surf. The U-15s kicked off the day with a 2-1 win over Surf, capturing their second consecutive win of 2020. The U-17s took the field next and rolled to a dominant 4-1 win over Surf, improving to a 9-1-3 (W-D-L) record.

Barça Residency Academy U-15 vs. San Diego Surf

The Barça Residency Academy U-15s got off to a hot start against San Diego Surf. They enjoyed much of the ball in the first 20 minutes before breaking the deadlock in the 24th minute. Gabriel Enriquez found himself in great space inside the penalty area and unleashed a wicked shot that whipped past the keeper. Barça doubled their advantage in just seven minutes later when Brooklyn Raines found the back of the net from distance, scoring in his second consecutive game.

The U-15s carried their 2-0 lead into the interval and saw chances in the 42nd and 68th minute but could not find the third goal to put the game away. Surf grabbed a goal back in the 75th minute to make it a 2-1 late in the game but Barça was able to see the game out and secure their second successive win of 2020.

Barça Residency Academy U-17 vs. San Diego Surf

The U-17s who had their six-game win streak snapped by FC Golden State last week were hungry to get back into the win column and it showed. The game was fairly even and tight for the first 10 minutes. In the 15th Barça Residency Academy’s Edwin Arias was shown a red card forcing Barça to play down a man for the remainder of the game. Down to 10 men within just 15 minutes, Barça showed their resiliency as they were lovely in possession and created a few chances in the first half.

Deadlocked at 0-0 at the half, Barça Residency Academy broke the score open with a goal in the 48th minute. Ocean Salari strolled through the center of the pitch beating four men in the process, found himself in the penalty area and placed it bottom corner to give Barça a 1-0 lead. Surf responded with a goal just five minutes later to bring the score to 1-1. Barça was awarded a free kick in the 63rd minute that Ulysses Martinez converted to put his team back in front, 2-1. In the 84th minute, a Surf player was shown a red card – leveling the playing field to ten men apiece. On the resulting free kick, Angel Ramirez crushed it past the Surf keeper to extend their lead to 3-1. Samuel Mendoza put the game out of reach in the 87th minute with Barça’s 4th goal.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Academy U-15s and the U-17s will enjoy the weekend off, the U-19s will face DA West Division rival, Crossfire FC on Saturday, February 8th at Grande Sports World – Home of Barça Residency Academy.
