Barça Residency Academy U-16s, U-17s and U-19s defeat RSL-AZ

RECAP

Casa Grande, Ariz –Playing at Grande Sports World – Home of Barça Residency Academy for the second week in a row, Barça Residency Academy’s U-19s, U-17s, U-16s and U15s took on RSL-Arizona on Saturday morning with the U-16s and U-15s kicking off simultaneously at 9:00 AM followed by the U-17s and U-19s at 11:00 AM.

In the first set of matches, Barça’s U-16s shutout RSL-AZ by a score of 4-0 while the U-15s dropped a close game 3-4. The U-19s and U-17s closed the day with a pair of wins, defeating RSL-AZ 4-0 and 3-1 respectively.

The Pre-Academy teams combined for three wins and three losses in a weekend of Arizona Advanced League action.

Barça Residency Academy U-16 vs. RLS-AZ (MLS NEXT)

The U-16s who were looking to rebound from a second half loss in their season opener, opened the day with an emphatic 4-0 shutout win over RSL-AZ.

Eager to prove themselves after a disappointing loss the weekend before, Barça Residency Academy got off to a quick start, in the 10th minute, Idoh Zeltzer-Zubida found space at the left edge of the box and finished past the keeper bottom right to take a 1-0 lead. Barça controlled possession and had a few chances in the first half but the score remained 1-0 into the interval.

After a quick goal in the first half, Barça’s next goal didn’t come until the 75th minute when Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar intercepted a long pass midfield, drove it forward, and laid it off to Jonathan Gamez who struck a well-placed ball past the keeper. Barça put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the 81st and 83rd minute by Simon Downhour and Alexander Guillory to bring the final score to 4-0.

Barça Residency Academy U-15 vs. RLS-AZ (MLS NEXT)

Barça Residency Academy’s youngest group had the academy’s only loss of the day, dropping a back and forward battle to RSL-AZ 3-4. Barça’s Ryan Rivas quickly opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the game. However, for as little time as it took Barça to get on the board, it took their opponents an even smaller amount of time to equalize: RSL-AZ leveled the game in the 7th minute, less than 60 seconds after Barça jumped out ahead. RSL-AZ took the lead just three minutes after that, making the score 2-1 in just the 10th minute of the game. RSL-AZ extended their lead to 3-1 in the 35rd minute and held their advantage into the break.

Barça’s Moises Arciniega grabbed a goal back in the 51st minute to make it a one-goal game but RLS-AZ struck again just three minutes later to make it 4-2. Barça pulled back within one with after a goal from Zachary Smuck in the 56th minute but couldn’t find the equalizer and fell 3-4 to RLS-AZ.

The Barça Residency Academy U-19s and U-17s closed the day with a pair of wins, both team’s second consecutive win of the season.

Barça’s U-19s who defeated Phoenix Rising Academy 4-1 last weekend, continued their show of dominance on Saturday as they shut out RSL-AZ by a score of 4-0.

Barça scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute when Takumi Ikeda tapped in a rebound after a shot by Dante Williams. Diego Luna doubled the advantage in the 25th minute when he calmly converted a PK. Not satisfied with just a 2-0 lead, Dante Williams found Diego Luna in the box for his second goal of the game to give Barça a 3-0 lead at the half.

Barça would cap off the game with it’s final goal 86th minute when Jimmy Glaab finished a cross from Diego Luna who scored a brace and provided an assist in two consecutive games.

Barça Residency Academy U-17 vs. RLS-AZ (MLS NEXT)

Barça’s U-17s got off to a slow start in the first half but came up with a 3-1 win over RSL-AZ.

After a 0-0 scoreline for majority of the first half, RSL-AZ opened the scoring in the 36th minute of the game. It didn’t take long for Barça to respond as Oluwakorede Osundina netted a goal at the brink of halftime to ensure an even scoreline at the half.

Luca Sowinski gave Barça a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute. Abel Salazar put the game away in the 79th minute and secured the 3-1 result for Barça Residency Academy.

Barça Residency Academy Pre-Academy Results – Arizona Advanced Leagues

Barça’s Pre-Academy teams continued with Arizona Advanced League action over the weekend and combined for a weekend record of 3-3.
