Barca Residency Academy’s Diego Ascencio was invited to participate in the 2024 Supercopa FMF tournament hosted by FIFA and the Mexican Football Federation. This exclusive event took place from August 6th to 11th at the Mexican Football Federation’s world-class facilities in Toluca, uniting top young talents from across Mexico and the United States.
The tournament featured four elite U-15 teams: El Camino California and El Camino Texas (comprising top pre-selected Mexican-American players), FMF Amateur Selection (featuring top players from Mexico), and the Mexican National Team. All players in the tournament ware eligible for selection to the Mexican National Team.
Ascencio earned his spot on El Camino California after impressing scouts at the Western Region El Camino Talent ID Camp in May. The Supercopa FMF served as a crucial platform for these young athletes to showcase their skills in front of the Mexican National Team’s technical staff. The tournament format included a round-robin competition, culminating in a Gold Final for the top two teams and a Silver Final for the remaining teams.
In the final matches, El Camino California faced off against El Camino Texas in the Silver Final, with Texas emerging victorious with a 4-0 win. Meanwhile, the Mexican National Team secured a 2-0 victory over the FMF Amateur Selection in the Gold Final.
