Goals Galore at the Grande – Homegrown Undefeated Weekend

Barca Residency Academy hosted its first doubleheader weekend of the year, featuring both MLS NEXT Academy and Homegrown teams in action on Saturday and Sunday. The Academy teams took on Las Vegas Sports Academy and Players SC LV, while the Homegrown teams battled against Chula Vista FC and LA Bulls. The weekend delivered strong results with all teams finishing with a combined record of 13-2-1, highlighted by high-powered goal scoring and an undefeated weekend from the Homegrown teams.

SATURDAY 2/28:

Barca’s Homegrown teams opened the weekend with four wins versus Chula Vista FC. There was no shortage of goals from the games as Barca netted 22 total goals, highlighted by Joshua Sosa’s incredible hat-trick and two assists for the U-19’s. 

The Academy teams also scored goals galore on Saturday, tallying 13 across four games. U-17 Striker Thierno Bah highlighted the day with an absolute laser of a goal from the top right side of the box after latching onto a throughball. The U-15 and U-16 Academy teams dominated their respective games through collective team actions and complete performances, as shown by the distribution of goals across the teams.

  • U-19s: W 5–1 (Sosa x3, Cisneros x2)
  • U-17s: W 7–1 (Stoddard x2, Anguiano, VanCleave, Vela, Sellinger)
  • U-16s: W 6–1 (Alagha x2, Lopez Jr., Martins, M. Ramirez, C. Ramirez)
  • U-15s: W 4–0 (Leon x2, Shepherd, Yepez)

MLS NEXT Elite Academy vs. Las Vegas Sports Academy

  • U-19s: D 2–2 (Willis, A. Martinez)
  • U-17s: W 4–1 (Bah, Taylor, Alonso, Antonio)
  • U-16s: W 3–1 (Demirchyan, I. Rodriguez, Jafta)
  • U-15s: W 4–1 (Marin, Kay, Morehead, Golden)

SUNDAY 3/1:

On Sunday, Barca’s Homegrown teams picked up right where they left off. They completed an undefeated weekend with four commanding shutout wins against the LA Bulls with a combined score of 21-0. U-19 duo Joshua Sosa and Xavi Cisneros repeated their production from Saturday, combining for another five goals. U-17’s Emilio Kieffer and Leo Mora tallied the same, scoring five goals and propelling their team to a 9-0 victory. 

Meanwhile, the U-19 academy team secured a 4-2 win over Players SC Las Vegas. The U-16 squad had the highlight of the day (watch here) after Cruz Cassler broke his defender down and slid it to Noah Levy, who passed it into the middle of the box, where Addison Morehead drove home the game-winner.

Looking Ahead

Barca’s USL Academy team opens the 2026 season against Stars FC on Tuesday on the road. This weekend, the Academy squads will have a doubleheader, facing SC Del Sol on Saturday and FC Tucson on the road Sunday.
