Homegrown Teams Come out on Top in Pivotal Divisional Battles

Barca Residency Academy’s MLS NEXT Homegrown teams took center stage this weekend as they hosted Albion SC San Diego at Grande Sports World – Home of Barça Residency Academy. All four games featured top ten matchups within the Southwest division. Barca’s Homegrown sides combined for three wins and a loss on the day, highlighted by a pivotal divisional win for the U-17s and a dominant 3-0 win for the U-16 squad.

MLS NEXT Homegrown vs. Albion SC San Diego

A key weekend for Barca Residency Academy delivered positive results. The U17s came back from a 0-1 deficit at the half despite being down a man to defeat Albion 3-2. Jovani Anguiano scored two goals, including the game-winner to hold onto first place in the Southwest Division.

The U16s won in dominating fashion. Goalkeeper Zach Eynon came in at striker and scored the third goal of the game, while Ido Rosenburg earned the clean sheet. On the other hand, Barca’s U19s jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a brace from Joshua Sosa and another by Santi Avalos. Albion SC didn’t go away though, they battled back making it a 3-2 nail-biting win for Barca. The U15s, who trailed 0-1, equalized in the second half after a goal by Caden Johnson, but couldn’t find the back of the net again, ultimately falling 1-3 to Albion SC.

Looking Ahead

This weekend, Barca’s MLS NEXT Homegrown teams will hit the road to San Diego for a doubleheader against City SC San Diego and City SC Southwest. Meanwhile, the Academy teams will stay home to battle SC Del Sol at Grande Sports World.
