“Hoppe really is a player that checks all the boxes for the type of player we think will be successful in Mallorca,” said Stuart Holden, Mallorca minority owner and former Premier League and USMNT player. “We love his [Hoppe’s] competitiveness and ability to score and create goals. We think he’ll fit nicely into our squad.”
In January, Hoppe became the first American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga, leading Schalke to a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim. Hoppe ended the season as Schalke’s top scorer. At the start of the summer, Gregg Berhalter called him up to the USMNT for the first time. By the end of the summer, Hoppe had scored a goal and set up another to help the USMNT win the 2021 Gold Cup.
