Player Insider: A Life-Changing Year

Player Insider: From Barça Residency Academy to College

My name is Cameron Fisher and I play for the U19 Barça Residency Academy team.  I am currently going into my second year as a Barça residential player.  Barça has been great for me on both the soccer side of things and the academic side of things.  I have grown more in 11 months here than anywhere else.  I credit that to the coaches and the people who support me 24/7 at Grande Sports World (Home of Barça Academy).

Prior to my time at Barça, I played for SC del Sol a club soccer based out of Phoenix, Arizona.  I played there for a number of years, it was great place for development and improvement in my game.  The coaches there were great and they are part of the reason why I went to Barça.  They recommended that I try out at Barça and I ended up listening to them.  I went for a tryout and I could instantly see that if I wanted to take my game to the next level, Barça would be the place to take me there.  So, I ended up playing for Barça and attending ASU Prep on campus for my junior year, as a resident playing for the U17 Academy team.

Last year was one of the most life-changing years of my life.  From living away from my family to making it to Kansas City for the DA Final Four, the year was quite remarkable. As a club player, the one thing that was lacking was college and pro exposure.  Now at Barça, there is no shortage of that at all.  With the winter showcase in December and playoffs in June, our sidelines were packed with top collegiate teams and even some pro team scouts. This year I achieved a goal and committed to a top collegiate soccer program, University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. A team who made it to the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Final Four last year. Without Barça, who knows where I would be in the college process and I am extremely thankful for that.

In conclusion, I am extremely happy with the choice of coming here last year and returning for my second (senior) year.  Up to this point, it has been a life changing experience for me in all aspects of my life.  I have grown so much as a person and as a soccer player. If I hadn’t have come to Barça, who knows what I would be doing on the soccer field or what type of person I would be. Again, I credit all of that success to the staff of Grande Sports World and Barça Academy.
