RECAP
It was a yet another busy weekend for Barca Residency Academy as all five Pre-Academy teams competed in the local 2019 Phoenix Cup tournament from Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24 at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Scottsdale.
The Pre-Academy U-16s and U-18s went the distance and were crowned Phoenix Cup Champions in their respective age group. The U-19s advanced to the Phoenix Cup final but fell to SC del Sol in a tightly contested match that ended 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation.

The No. 1 Arizona ranked Barça Residency Academy U-16s defeated the No. 3 Texas ranked EPCSL – LA Galaxy 3-1 in the Phoenix Cup final on Sunday to claim the championship title. Goals: Adrian Sanchez, Carter Schmidt, Nolan Patterson

This is the U-16s third tournament title of the season: 2018 Arsenal Challenge, 2019 Las Vegas Players Showcase and the 2019 Phoenix Cup. They have also finished undefeated in the two showcases: 2018 Surf Cup and the 2018 NCAA Men’s College Cup Showcase. This weekend’s performance moved them to the No. 5 spot regionally and No. 12 spot nationally.
Barça Residency Academy Pre-Academy U-18
The U-18s posted perhaps their most impressive weekend to date, taking home the Phoenix Cup Championship title after defeating FC Sonora 4-1 in the final. They are now ranked the No. 8 team in the state with this weekend’s performance.

Barça Residency Academy Pre-Academy U-19
Despite missing key players Musa Yansaneh and Andre “Chuy” Virgin, the No. 1 Arizona ranked U-19s advanced to the title game with and an undefeated 2-1-0 record before falling to SC del Sol 4-5 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation.

The Pre-Academy U-17s and U-15s finished the Phoenix Cup with 1-2 and an 0-3 record respectively.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Pre-Academy U-16, U-17 and U-19s will compete in the 40th annual Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup April 14-21. The U-15s and U-18s will compete in the LA Galaxy April 20-21 in Irvine, California.
