Barca Residency Academy U16 celebrating after advancing to the round of 16 at the 2025 Generation Adidas Cup

U16s Advance to 2025 Generation Adidas Cup Round of 16

Barca Residency Academy’s U16 MLS Next team advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2025 Generation Adidas Cup – the only non-MLS affiliated U.S.-based academy to achieve this feat in the U16 age group. The prestigious international tournament featured 80 of the world’s top youth teams across the U16 and U18 divisions, with clubs representing 14 countries and four continents. The event was held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from April 12–20.

Barca’s U16 squad kicked off their campaign with a strong showing in the group stage, earning six points through impressive victories over Sporting Kansas City (3-2) and D.C. United (3-0). Despite a 1-3 defeat to eventual tournament semifinalists PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands, the team’s performances were enough to secure a spot in the knockout round.

In the Round of 16, Barca faced off against CF Montreal in a tightly contested match. Montreal took a 2-0 lead into halftime, but Barca responded with determination and energy in the second half. Graham Ford pulled one back for the Academy, and the team continued to press for an equalizer. Despite their relentless effort and disciplined defense, the match ended 2-1 in favor of Montreal.

The squad closed out the eight-day tournament with a strong finish, dominating the Portland Timbers in a 4-0 shutout and putting in a valiant effort in a narrow 1-2 loss to the Colorado Rapids.

Barca Residency Academy’s U16s showcased quality, composure, and competitive grit on the biggest youth stage in the nation— continuing to prove Barca’s reputation as a top-tier development program in the country.
