Academy U-19s Take Home Six Points in Weekend Doubleheader

RECAP

The Academy teams traveled to Southern California for a weekend doubleheader against Nomads SC and LA Galaxy. It was a great weekend for the U-19 Academy team as they earned two huge road wins to remain a top of the U-18/19 DA Southwest Division. Matthew Hoppe, who leads the DA U-18/19 age group in goals scored, had his best weekend to date as he netted a hat-trick in both games.

Barça Academy U-19 vs. Nomads SC

On Saturday, the U-19s faced Nomads SC in San Diego at the Kinsell Field. Matthew Hoppe gave Barça Residency Academy a 1-0 advantage after converting a penalty kick in the 45th minute. Roberto Molina then placed a beautiful goal into the upper 90 just six minutes into the second half to make it 2-0.

Hoppe converted another PK in the 68th minute before Nomads SC scored their lone goal in the 77th minute. A minute later, Hoppe completed his hat-trick and put the game away for Barca Residency Academy.

Matthew Hoppe  has scored 24 goals in 17 games this season.

Barça Academy U-19 vs. LA Galaxy

On Sunday, the U-19s squared off with LA Galaxy Academy in Los Angeles at the Dignity Health Sports Park. Matthew Hoppe, fresh off a brilliant performance the day before, picked up right where he left off and netted his first goal of the day in the 5th minute. He then scored in the 20th and 41st minute to complete a first half hat-trick that gave Barça a commanding 3-0 lead at the half.

LA Galaxy one of the top teams in the division scored three goals within the first eight minutes of the second half to draw level (45th, 46th and 53rd minute). With the score tied at 3-3, Barça responded with a goal in the 68th minute when Nick Fernandez connected with Cameron Fisher for his fifth goal of the season. Barça closed out the weekend with a 4-3 win over LA Galaxy and traveled home with all six points from a tough road doubleheader.

Barça Academy U-17

The U-17s dropped both games over the weekend, falling 3-1 to Nomads SC and 3-2 to LA Galaxy despite a strong second half effort against Galaxy on Sunday.

Barça Academy U-15 vs. Nomads SC

The U-15s played a single game this weekend, they kicked off first on Saturday at Kinsell Field against Nomads SC. Barça conceded two first half goals and trailed 2-0 at the half. Charlie Matsumoto pulled one back for Barça in the 55th with a banger from outside the 18 that froze the keeper to make it 2-1.

Barça pushed for an equalizer but were unlucky and fell to Nomads SC 2-1.

The U-15s will host Los Angeles Football Club on Saturday at 11:00 am at Grande Sports World – Home of Barça Residency Academy.
