Matthew Hoppe Called to USMNT Gold Cup Team

Matthew Hoppe Named to USMNT Gold Cup Roster

Casa Grande, AZ (July 1, 2021) – Barca Residency Academy alumnus Matthew Hoppe has been named to the U.S. Men’s National team roster for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup. The U.S. Soccer Federation and head coach Gregg Berhalter announced the 23-player roster on Wednesday which features a mix of veterans and promising young talent who will be in pursuit of the United States’ seventh confederation championship title.

“Our priority is to win the Gold Cup. Anytime we’re competing for a trophy, we want to win it,” Berhalter said. “It’s going to take a good effort by the group, but it’s certainly a focus of ours. We know the games are going to be difficult, and as we looked at the roster for this tournament, we focused on guys who are in form and can help the team win.”

Caden Clark, another Barca Residency Academy alumnus, missed the call-up due to a recent surgery. “It’s really unfortunate with the timing of the appendectomy,” said Berhalter. “[Clark] is a player I was really looking forward to working with… we know this kid has a bright future.”

The USMNT is part of Group B in the Gold Cup along with Canada, Martinique and a team that will be determined through the 2021 Gold Cup Prelims. The USA will play all of its group matches at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City beginning July 11.
