On Tuesday night, 17 students were inducted into the ASU Preparatory Academy Chapter of National Honor Society, including seven Barça Residency Academy student-athletes.
Due to COVID-19, the NHS induction ceremony wasn’t the traditional candle lit occasion, instead it was an intimate Zoom video conference with current members, staff, family, and friends in attendance. The moment proved to be nothing short of special for the new inductees as they smiled ear to ear from start to end of the ceremony.
NHS Vice President David Reyes provided the welcome and introduced the night’s keynote speaker, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb who from his patrol vehicle, energetically delivered an encouraging speech about “being yourself”. NHS President Summer Leija followed up with the reading of the four pillars of NHS before Principle Sylvia Mejia inducted the 17 new members.
According to the organization, students must display excellence in scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship in order to be inducted into the chapter. A minimum 3.6 GPA, volunteer hours and leadership experience are required to become eligible.
New Officers were introduced by Dean of Students Brian Ross and NHS Advisor Amy Ramirez provided a warm closing to the ceremony.
